His real name was Jin Quay and wasn't always a fire genasi, that happened as a price from an ill-fated trip to the Hells in exchange for his son's life, which was supposed to be one-way trip. (1/x)
But an angel that he had summoned and bound under his rule (he's an excellent summoner of outer-planar beings) offered him a way out in exchange of reversing their roles and now becoming his master instead. He keeps chasing cultists and disrupting curses and rituals under the angel's guidance (2/x)
He became a genasi after coming back and changed his name to Coal, abandoning his past self and his connection to his kid, because he feels responsible of his almost-death and unworthy (some cultists sacrificed the kid's soul to a devil as payback to Coal). (3/x)
He has a boyfriend named Hugo, he came out of the closet very late and feels like he missed everything and it's too late now, but then he met Hugo and well they're quite happy together. (4/5)
Coal is an Occultist, a reflavoured homebrew class based on the Witch by Mage Hand Press, which in turn is an adaptation of Pathfinder 2e's base Witch class to the D&D 5e system.

I considered going the tried-and-true route of firey shiny eyes, but black looked so good with the smoke ๐
I think the black is the right choice. That, with the smoke-head makes him so effortlessly eerie and intense and I definitely wouldn't want to be the one he is facing in a fight lol
