Archaeology/Classics Hive mind: has anyone looked at the reception of ancient/archaeological themes in HP Lovecraft? All suggestions and recommendations gratefully received! #Classicsbluesky 🏺

I am going to clear out my office and hand back my laptop and keys tomorrow and hopefully after that I will feel better than I do now. I’m still kind of in shock about having both the best and worst job season, being the most and - apparently least - competitive I have ever been.

I’m not here to say I necessarily like being #ActuallyAutistic, because it has made my life more difficult, but there are definitely some good things - especially for a person who works in/with sensory studies and sensory archaeology. But every single day I wish I could not hear electricity.

“There’s no place in America for this kind of violence” Except for school kids, I guess. At least he said ‘in America’ as though the US doesn’t have blood-stained hands everywhere.

I lost my denim jacket at the CCC (having spent a while looking for it on Friday morning). The jacket itself is meh, but I lost my Arts Emergency pin, and all the pins I bought at separate visits to the Akropolis Museum. So I’m going to make a new jacket but I’m still sad.

So why is Wes Streeting trying to permanently ban puberty blockers then…?

The number of 'DEI' committees that give you a blank stare when you ask them about any disability-related initiatives they might be involved in is, uh, really something.

It’s super weird thinking I’m on the last leg of my tour.

Since I arrived in Wales (a place I genuinely love!) I have been HOUNDED by ABBA’s Waterloo.

On the way to Cathays for the first day of our panel at the CCC - Theoretical Approaches to Ancient Greek Religion - organised by Ben Cassel and Susan Deacy. I will, obviously, be talking about the Parthenon Frieze because these days I only talk about that or Brauron.

For those teaching, researching, or interested in visualizing Greek myth, there is an invaluable new interactive map & database of Greek mythic persons, objects, & places called MANTO. The raw linked open data alone is stunning but the maps are also fantastic [1/4] manto.unh.edu/viewer.p/60/...

If you’re attending the Celtic Conference in Classics and have free time on Thursday at 10am, come see @emmapauly.bsky.social and I present some of our research. We’ve cooked up something real special here.

It’s not often that one escapes to Wales for _better_ weather, but here we are.

The programme is being finalised but if you happen to be in Sydney and are interested in teaching with artefacts, then do come along to 'Teaching Antiquity with Material Culture' @ACANSMQ on 3rd August! www.eventbrite.com.au/e/teaching-a....

Do you know what would be good for my mental and physical well being? Stable employment. Particularly galling that this week features “how to make change work for you”. This post brought to you by the weekly ‘Mind Tools’ email my current employer sends me.

The Parthenon Frieze skirt is done enough that the last few bits of hand stitching can be completed on the train. And thus: this coming Wednesday you, should you be in Cardiff, will have the opportunity to see me present on the Parthenon’s Ionic Frieze wearing the same. #ClassicsBluesky

But look how schmick it turns out when I do have the confidence and do it the way that works for me.
Sometimes I am confident enough to not follow the instructions and do things the way I know works best for me, and sometimes I am not and it goes badly. This is a post about sewing invisible zips but it’s also a post about being Autistic.

Today’s thoughts: the instructions don’t say to understitch this. Should I understitch it anyway? Yes. Yes of course I should understitch it anyway.

Should I be working on my CCC paper? Yes. Am I making a thematically appropriate skirt to wear while delivering my CCC paper? Also yes.

The biggest problem I have with my deep desire to run away and open a cat cafe is that I have the perfect name for a cat cafe in my local area, which means… no running away. But maybe cats?

In France, the left coalition comes in first, Macron second, the far-right third. The best way to defeat fascism is not centrism, it’s a strong left.

It feels a lot like America is a bride who has been planning the perfect wedding for ages and ages and they’ve been engaged for years and we have just come in with a whirlwind proposal and wedding and are now cracking on with life. This is a post about elections.

I get it but it really sucks that UCEA pay offer updates come at a time when so many people are facing imminent unemployment. In other news I haven’t finished my CCC paper because all the time I should have been working on it I have spent on job applications, interview preparation, and rejection.
