Apparently S.U. administration has asked our encampment to leave before commencement (dailyorange.com/2024/05/enca...). They have refused. I'm just going to note here a list of other things administration could do INSTEAD of calling the cops and/or issuing violations, in case anyone is listening.
2) Make them part of commencement. Be proud to have activist students standing up for what they believe. Surround the encampment with banners proclaiming "Syracuse University Supports Free Speech." Have the Tully Center co-sponsor a commencement event with them.
I am optimistic about this getting sorted -- so far I think both the students and the administration have been respectful of each other and open to making constructive progress. I really hope that continues.
