This morning in central Tāmaki Makaurau. I first saw this kōtuku ngutupapa feeding here two weeks ago. When I told some friends, they teased me for not getting down in the mud to get the shot. So today I did! Very smelly mud though. I’d advise against getting in my car in the next couple of weeks… 🪶

Does anyone know a bird photographer in or around Melbourne Australia who would take a kiwi out shooting with them one day in July and show him a cool spot or two? I’m not having much luck with the tourism operators… 🪶

Nice photos on a phone screen are cool and all, but they look a hundred times better printed, matted and hanging on a wall! You can see three of my images and over 60 others from my camera club friends at Te Atatu Peninsula library this month.

Yay for the weekend! I took full advantage of an east coast high tide at dawn this morning, coupled with a favourable weather forecast, to spend some quality time with my favourite photography subjects - kuaka (bar-tailed godwits). 🪶

I got up close and personal with one of the local Royal spoonbills | Kōtuku ngutupapa @Western Springs #birds 📸 🪶🇳🇿

I counted 21 in the kuaka flock today, down from about 35 a fortnight ago. I guess if the last couple of mornings weren’t cold enough to make Alaska seem appealing then you’re probably here to stay… 🪶

I met this girl at Zoo Frankfurt last November. She spotted my camera from across her enclosure, raced right over to me and unmistakably posed for this shot. I’ve tried to get the edit right at least 20 times. I think I’m just about happy with this one! 🖤

A pohowera (banded dotterel) I met this morning. Couldn’t decide which one to publish so I made a diptych… 🪶

It’s ANZAC Day, a public holiday to commemorate the allied landing at Gallipoli. I’m not a fan of dawn services (or glorifying war) but I did spare a thought for those who died on that beach 109 years ago while I spent some time on a different beach on the opposite side of the world this morning. 🪶

A re-edit of this kuaka. Because I’m incapable of leaving things alone… 🪶

This kōtare (sacred kingfisher) thinks I should post here more often. 🪶

I've done a new edit on my popular cygnet image, taken on Saturday morning. It's up on my website! 🪶 birds.photos/2024/04/15/k...
