I've been in a very Star Fox mood lately and wanted to look up similar games, and I learned about Vanark and Space Debris, both for PS1. They look really similar! I'm surprised I never heard of them before. Still wish Nintendo would try Star Fox again, and not like how they did with Zero.

Path of Giants is one of those rare bands that capture some of that Vildhjarta energy. I was thrilled when I found them and heard similar kinds of ambient soundscapes and staccato riffs. I love putting on Beholder and letting it take my brain on a journey. #metal #thall m.youtube.com/watch?v=JXd6...

Whisker Squadron is fun. It looks similar to Star Fox but feels different to play which is fine because it's fun in its own way. Cool visuals and tunes and a campaign story featuring anti capitalist cats. A little light on content but it's early access so 🤷‍♀️ store.steampowered.com/app/2140100/...

Windows is really, blatantly bad now so I know it's more than just nostalgia (but definitely big time nostalgia nonetheless) when I get delightful vibes from stuff like this from a time when Windows was a new and exciting thing. Also really neat to see how much 95 changed during development.
Windows 95 build 07200022, from 20th July 1992, is thought to be the earliest known build of Windows 95 (1995). It includes early versions of features that would officially debut in 95, such as updated UI controls & customisations, right-click menus & Paint (known as Raster).

I'm not a Christian. But I was raised a Jehovah's Witness so I know stuff about the Bible. And I think it's actually pretty cool to think about how literally the only people Jesus ever actually raged at were capitalists and highly controlling religious leaders.

I try to stick with cute happy vibes here because there's already enough negativity everywhere, but gosh. I feel broken. This whole world feels like something out of a harrowing dystopian novel, not reality. But it is reality.

Last night I learned that the voice actor who plays Rambley the Raccoon from Indigo Park streamed himself playing the game and he has a lil otter avatar and everything about it is just so cute and wonderful. Also apparently Rambley is his biggest role by far and that makes me so happy for him.

Cattle Decapitation - We Eat Our Young (OFFICIAL VIDEO)m.youtube.com Buy here: http://www.metalblade.com/cattledecapitation Audio Produced by Dave Otero for Flatline Audio Though many bands have tried, no one articulates the real apocalypse humanity is facing as vividly and succinctly as CATTLE DECAPITATION. With 2019’s Death Atlas, they reached the apex of this, perhaps leading some to believe they had no place left to go beyond such an achievement, but alas, they return with Terrasite, which is as bold a statement as they have ever made. “After a record like Death Atlas, you have to make a turn,” notes guitarist Josh Elmore. “Everything about that album - the concept, artwork, music, etc, was a final statement. The only way to move forward is rebirth. In approaching the newest record, it was not only necessary to keep the musical trajectory the band has been aiming towards since the beginning, but also to further explore the ambient/textural elements that were part of Death Atlas.” As such, Terrasite pushes their sound further into more epic and varied territory, and in the hands of vocalist Travis Ryan the governing concept takes a new and disturbing direction. “I wanted to do the 180° opposite of Death Atlas. I already had the concept idea from years back and since Death Atlas was so dark and brooding, I wanted a completely opposite effect - I wanted this to take place in the daylight. I’ve always found daytime horror to be really unsettling so I wanted to make sure what was going on on the cover took place in the light of day, which also finds its place within the lyrics.” The title is a word invented by Ryan that brings together “Terra-“ meaning “earth” and “-site” derived from the Greek word “-sitos” which means “food.” “The combination of the two means ‘earth-eater.’ It’s a metaphor for humanity’s role in the destruction of the planet and is a play-on-words of the very fitting word ‘parasite.’” This is vividly brought to life in the artwork by longtime collaborator Wes Benscoter (Vader, Kreator, Bloodbath, Hypocrisy). “We see the nymph stage of this human/cockroach hybrid that is more of a fully grown being that has just molted from its ootheca stage, startled, confused, frightened but also pissed off. The band once again worked with producer Dave Otero (Cephalic Carnage, Allegaeon), who knows the members’ individual styles and how to coax the best out of them, bringing in Tony Parker of Midnight Odyssey to handle piano and synths. #cattledecapitation #weeatouryoung #terrasite

Deezer recommended me the band Cattle Decapitation yesterday. Their 2023 album Terrasite is really sweet, but i also learned they've been around since the mid 90s which is awesome. I assumed they're death metal but Wikipedia says they're deathgrind? I've so much trouble telling the subgenres apart 😅

I have not played Elden Ring, but game with huge friggin tree is one of my favorite genres. There's just something so delightfully epic and whimsical about it, and it has such a rich history going back all the way to the old Mana games (maybe even before them???)

People can say what they will about St Anger (I don't like the album at all myself), but I remember reading comments from a fan of the album circa 2005 saying they interpreted the drum and guitar style in symbolic ways to parallel the struggles the band faced back then and I always loved that.

Spotify has been good to me with its recommendations, but I still detest them as a company. Deezer gives musicians a bigger cut and they just sent me a nice promotional offer, so I'm gonna give them a try. Really curious to see how their recommendation algorithm compares.

I played that Indigo Park game. I'm not really a "horror game" kind of person but I really liked that one a lot and will absolutely buy future chapters. Rambley the Raccoon is too cute - between the voice actor and his animated mannerisms/body language, I found him incredibly endearing. 🙂
