Often the trick is finding a good playlist of “oldies” novelty songs to transition from “How Much Is That Doggy” to Monster Mash & Flying Purple People Eater.
Then you work your way forward through the tamer era stuff to your own music.
My sister went straight from Wee Folk Sings to Metallica. As a five year old, her favorite tape was Ride The Lightning. She got in trouble when she brought it in for music time, as she’d won the right to, and didn’t understand why.
The first of many times that happened to her.
The best is definitely the holidays where she came home from college and punched me because she'd gotten high praise from an anthro prof for recognizing signs of cannibalism on a slide, triggering WHY DO YOU KNOW THIS from the rest of the class.
So many knowledge landmines my dad and I gave her.
The five and four year old sing along to AC/DC a lot but the two year old isn't quite there yet, the fact she seems super into Ska was a nice discovery. Shame about your sister having to deal with closed minded teachers already at that age 😒
