Reminder:

When I moved to my place I bought a simple, low cost, b&w, Canon laser printer. This was like… just over 5 years ago. About a year later the toner it came with (always only a little) ran out so I bought a pack of 4 replacement cartridges. I just finally replace one. One. In 4 years.

Example of how broken Google Search is these days: I searched for “trace hollow body guitar layout” and down the later “suggested search” section it suggested “hollow body round casings” with a ton of guns & ammo stuff. HOW ARE BULLETS RELEVANT TO GUITARS GOOGLE?!?

So. Much. Lunar. New Year. Candy. (also, my wife & I made Egg Rolls 😅) Happy Year of the Wood Dragon!

So… I couldn’t pass up this *steal* of a guitar. This ISN’T a 60s Gibson ES345—because I don’t have $10-20k to spare—but it is in that style. It’s a Korean company called Firefly that makes really incredible—but cheap!—guitars in the same style. It’s not identical, but still. It’s mine. All mine.

Setup that whole “use your own domain as your username” thing on here. The @atproto.com guys (& bsky itself) made that *incredibly* simple. It’s just Go To Settings —> Change Username —> use your own domain… then c&p the info into your DNS records at your registrar.

Wait, it just dawned on me: for only $3,500 not only could I watch TV while putting the baby down to bed each night without her seeing my bright phone but I could also do so without being poked in the eyes!?! Sold!

Having some vinyl fun. That’s a “brains” color Return of the Living Dead OST A cool splatter 2LP OST of 90s Sega classic Comix Zone (I used to work with the game designer of that) and a signed Juliette Lewis EP Vinyl is definitely how I *buy* music these days. It’s just so gloriously tactile.

Felt this had to be done, so I did… We have entered the “find out” phase of FAFO.

While I worked at Netflix there was an overarching goal for everything: increase user delight. It informed every decision. Even if a change made a metric go up, if it was an annoyance? Then it was nixed. Based on their current software I can only assume “metric go brrr” has replaced that.

Trivia about me: I collect animation cels. Here’s probably the pride of my collection—from Akira—Tetsuo falling from the sky after teleporting. (note: the Akira cel also has the sketch for it but it’s welded to the paint… sigh. Suggestions welcome)
