As far as I can tell, only two of the nine East Midlands universities managed a small surplus in both 2021/22 and 2022/23. This year, the picture for everyone in the sector looks dire again, with 40% facing deficits. In Northampton & Derby, things have been bad for a while.
Remember: while home income is fixed but costs rise, the university sector can only shrink until there's just a small chunk left. This is not opinion, but maths: the Great Nothing that's gradually swallowing the whole system. www.bbc.co.uk/news/article...
