i'll bite. Because the other OLD guy has all of those faults and is STILL beating Joe in every poll. Joe is loosing traction in key demos that gave him the victory last time. A younger newer candidate could bring much needed energy because people are not excited, maybe Dems should listen...
Maybe polls aren't accurate and it's very late in the game to be switching. There will be a much bigger mess if they switched to anyone else. I don't really know anyone who planned on changing over to team trump after the debate. But team ??? Who knows.
Also elections are controlled by the states. Republican AGs have already promised to sue to block any candidate change. We can’t rely on the Trump stacked SCOTUS to stop them. It’s just not practical to change horses this late in the race.
