I also think the vast majority of those expressing skepticism in fact favor such backsliding. It's not that they don't think the things being warned of won't happen, they're more confused that other people would consider those acts politically abnormal.
I think a lot of people are going to go to the polls thinking that they are electing Christ and his new Kingdom will be surprised when they find out they elected a kakistocratic dictator who farts a lot.
