Only four years behind the curve, I began playing Cultist Simulator yesterday. A fascinating card-based strategy game with a Lovecraftian vibe, my runs all ended in despair or starvation til just now, when my occult detective was promoted into a 'minor victory' of mediocrity and obscurity. Sigh.

After a break I got back to 'The Excavation of Hob's Barrow' - from The Third Day, where excavation finally takes place. Two and a half hours later I'm all done, and what a story-journey that was; pastoral #FolkHorror meets the Gnostic. Mmm, smell that despair and inevitable doom! #AdventureGames

Started 'The Ghost of Ivy Barn' by @markstay.bsky.social a month ago, but due to life (and death...) stuff it's sat half-read for weeks. Tonight I was finally free to read, hoping to do a chapter. I couldn't put it down and three hours later I've finished the book and am eager for more! 💙📚 #BookSky

If you're in Australia, may I direct you to an incredibly nifty little site: yourbookstore.io You can search for any book you like, and it will tell you the nearest bookstore where it is stocked. And noting many independent bookstores will mail out online orders as well. Books! Near you!

St Kilda not-quite-sunset late this afternoon, as we wandered back from the pier to the car. It was a good day. 😎 #photography #melbourne

Doing "at home tourism" we caught the ferry from St Kilda across the bay to Williamstown for fish n chips. On the way back the captain detoured a few minutes south to this channel buoy with four Australian fur seals chilling on it. Definitely an unexpected treat. #photography #wildlife #melbourne

Just ate my first Jaffa Cake in over a year and now my taste-buds are basically exploding with nostalgia-bliss, and I can almost hear them saying, "Where have you been? And... did you bring friends?"

Somehow I'd never seen Ingmar Bergman's 'The Seventh Seal' before and have just rectified this cinematic oversight this evening. Wow. Just... wow. Will be thinking about this one for a long time, I suspect... (It's streaming for free on kanopy, for those with a library card.) #movies

For anyone with a library card, a local library with access to kanopy, and a penchant for quality black comedy, series 1 to 6 of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith's anthology show 'Inside No.9' are on there. 😎 In the last two weeks I've rewatched S1 to 3. Ye ghods, they're so damn good. 🏆 #tv

Our podcast will be a year old this week. Collaborating on any art thing is never easy, but the time I’ve spent working with Musetrap on this show has been very close to easy, supportive, encouraging, honest. I’m told it takes a year to become established in Podcastland, and here we are. #podcast

Oh frabjous day! The postie just delivered a package from the Father of Far-Fetched Fiction himself, Robert Rankin. Inside was my signed limited-edition hardback copy of 'Normanghast' (Book 3 of the now legendary Final Brentford Trilogy.) Straight to the top of my to-read pile! 😎 💙📚 #BookSky

Got a bit more 'The Excavation of Hob's Barrow' time in today. Almost finished Day 2, just a few things to sort in the village before digging begins. The #FolkHorror vibe is definitely ramping up, but screenshots would spoil, so enjoy this semi-innocuous scene. #AdventureGames #gaming #MacGaming

Watched 'Get Carter' last night for the first time in 30+ years. It holds up extraordinarily well - the standard for gritty gangster films. Despite a few memorable quips, Cain is in truth a dead-eyed human shark of a man, and the third act is relentless in its portrayal of this. Loved it. #movies

I've had 'The Excavation of Hob's Barrow' for a year and a half, but only got around to starting it today. Now regret taking so long, as I am very much enjoying its old-school pixel art point-n-click adventure meets English folk-horror vibes. #AdventureGames #FolkHorror #gaming #MacGaming

In amongst a bunch of other movies I saw last week was the 1995 "film about film-making", 'Living in Oblivion', starring Steve Buscemi and Catherine Keener. I scribbled a few paras about it on Letterbox, because I enjoyed it very much indeed. 😎 #movies letterboxd.com/civilmadman/...
Review of ‘Living in Oblivion’ (1995) ★★★★letterboxd.com Aside from being an uncredited background extra in one apparently quite mediocre (I've never seen it, haha!) feature film a long time ago, my film-making experience is limited to working on 9 or 10…
