Oh god this thought came to me this morning and now I can't escape it Fifth edition Rakshasa? Because I see a resemblance. Isn't that picture also from 1st ed AD&D?
Like, the monster manual before they had edition numbers? Yes, but that picture very much reminded me of the Monster Manual illustration. Yeah, that's 1st edition.
