It's the same everywhere, and as predictable as the rain in spring:
- Conservatives get trounced because the public rejects their horrible, inhumane policies
- Conservative leadership concludes that they lost because they weren't horrible and inhumane ENOUGH
And they’re off! Here go the Tories already trying to make next five years about exactly how vile we can be to migrants. (“Whatever it takes” in this context of course meaning “set fire to the ECHR and Refugee Convention”.)
Sometimes conservatism flourishes, sometimes it withers, but it never, ever learns. Its answer is always the same: more force, more violence, more control, more isolation, more repression -- even when those strategies manifestly don't work. Because ideology trumps empiricism.
