Not your run-of-the-mill parking garage. “Platform” in downtown Calgary is 7 storeys with 503 parking stalls, but it’s designed for future flexibility with features like higher ceilings and a central atrium, to facilitate future conversion into commercial or residential uses #yyc
I realize I’m late to the game on this one. But I haven’t been to Calgary in awhile. So it’s the first time I’ve seen their new Central Library. Wow.

A new “continuous sidewalk” in Kitchener. The design differs from regular sidewalks in that it doesn’t dip down to road level at intersections. It continues at an uninterrupted height. This slows cars turning onto the street, and it also reinforces pedestrian priority through the intersections.
When the City of #Albany was looking for ways to better connect its downtown to the Hudson River waterfront, they landed on this creative solution. They converted an under-utilized access ramp on Interstate 787 into the “Albany Skyway” pedestrian and #cycling link.
Building new housing where an expressway used to be. This is the Inner Loop in #Rochester. A former 4-6 lane highway that became one of the 1st expressway removals in N. America. Just a couple years after it was removed, over 500 units of midrise #housing now sit where the expressway used to be.
Almost finished. Conversion of this former downtown Hamilton manufacturing building into “The Pearl” with 15 affordable homes for indigenous families by Sacajawea Nonprofit Housing.

Someone once suggested to me that the walkability of a neighbourhood could be determined based on the number of staples in the hydro poles. I always liked that idea.
Efficiency of garbage collection is one of the arguments I’ve heard used against parking-protected #cycling lanes. #Montreal seems to have figured it out.
Checking out the new (almost finished) O-Train Trillium Line in #Ottawa. The direct access to the stations from the multi-use Trillium Pathway is a really nice feature.
Been to a lot of cities. Seen a lot of buildings. But this is still one of my all-time favourites (Marina City in #Chicago by architect Bertrand Goldberg).
I like when #transit systems do this. Real-time next-train arrival screens OUTSIDE the subway station at street level. So you know if you have to hurry or not BEFORE you start into the station! #Chicago
