Rough draft … I’ll admit that my definition of “rough draft” is an almost complete painting. Once I have paint covering the entire panel, I pause to consider how everything is working together. I use the app Procreate to try out my final edits first. #art#painting
Painting in progress … I’m painting with fluid acrylics from Golden. To keep my colors bright, I avoid mixing wet paints on my panel. Instead I’m painting wet over dry in many layers. This is easy to do with acrylics.
What about you? Wet over dry? Wet on wet? Dry over wet? 🤔 #art#painting
Painting in progress. When I paint a landscape with lots of space and depth, I like to work from the back forward. These hills get lighter, less saturated, and more blue the further into the distance. Starting in back gives me more control. What about you? #art#painting
Painting in progress … After my sketch, I ground my entire panel in a warm orange color. I’m using a rough mix of Azo Gold and Satin Glazing Liquid and a big hake brush to cover my panel. I find it easier and more fun to paint on top of a warm middle value like this. #painting#art
New painting underway! I sketch my composition using Copic markers. I used different shades of brown to help preview the depth in this scene. These lines are just dark enough to be seen while I’m painting, but they are easily covered up by the layers of paint to come. #painting#art

I’m thrilled to announce my first ever puzzle! The fine folks at Liberty Puzzles have created a stunning wood puzzle from my painting Two Red Chairs. This is a beautifully made puzzle filled with all sorts of whimsical pieces. Fun!
Honored to be featured in the latest issue of Modern Impressionist Magazine!
I never quite know how to answer when people ask what my painting style is called. To me it’s just painting, but I guess Modern Impressionism seems pretty apt.
Cheers! #art#artist#impressionism#artwork
My home state of Minnesota is known as the Land of 10,000 Lakes. That’s no exaggeration either – they are everywhere. Taking in a beautiful late evening sunset from the dock is a quintessential part of summers here. I hope you enjoy!

Rough draft … once I get my entire panel roughly covered in paint, I like to pause and consider which changes are needed. I use the app Procreate to digitally try out potential changes before finishing with paint. #painting#art
Painting in progress … when I paint a colorful sky like this I like to add the blue sky last. This lets me carve out more interesting cloud shapes and edges that I like. #art#painting
Painting in progress … when painting an epic sky like this, I like to establish my warmest lightest colors first. This helps these colors stay bright and clean. #painting#artwork#artist
Painting in progress … After the sketch, I cover my panel in a mix of Satin Glazing Liquid and Azo Gold from @goldenpaints. This ground layer helps to warm and brighten my paintings in a way that I like. I also find it easier and more enjoyable to paint on a middle value versus white. #painting
