I guess the silver lining here is that any woman can now get an abortion. She just has to win the presidency first and call it an official act.

Reading Chris Durang’s plays in my early 20s filled me joy and envy. How could you be so witty, scathing, and cheerful all at once. I was happily stunned when he agreed to play a fusspot gourmet in a very silly Frasier I wrote about a posh beach house dinner party ruined by a dead, reeking seal.

It must be April Fools’ Day. Hirschfeld Birthdays is claiming that this is Johann Sebastian Bach when it’s clearly Hermione Gingold.

Today's NYT Connections puzzle is even more WTF than usual. I'm guessing that tomorrow's categories will include Almost Palindromes and Words That Don't Mean What My Aunt Thinks They Do.

My gayest ever Frasier joke (which, given the competition, is saying something).

There’s little I can do that superior talents can’t do better, but I have no peer when it comes to microwaving leftovers that shouldn’t be microwaved, then getting distracted so I don’t eat the food till the texture’s been rubberized, but there’s no compensating warmth.

Could we maybe stop euphemizing Trump's geysers of brazen deceit as "unsubstantiated claims?" If a claim can't be substantiated because it's mendacious drivel, then call it a lie. Don't treat it like a possible truth that left the paperwork in its other suit. (That plus a glaring typo? From Axios?)

I’m torn between elation and the nagging fear that luck is a limited resource and I should have spent mine more wisely.

Mary Poppins was the first film I ever saw in a cinema when I was five. A Little Night Music was my first Broadway musical. Glynis Johns starred in both. A million people have sung "Send In The Clowns," but her version, worldly, wry, heartbreakingly tender, remains my favorite.

The trouble with Christmas tree shopping in L.A. is that when you finally see one you like, Annette Bening has always beaten you to it.

I’ll give Elon this: anyone can say, “Go f**k yourself,” but it takes a certain flair to say it while demonstrating just how it can be done.

When Harriet Harris asks what she can bring to Thanksgiving dinner, and you say, “Dessert if you like, something Thanksgiving-y,” you better believe she takes the assignment seriously.

How did I not know before today that the role of Ermengarde in The Matchmaker was created by Prunella Scales? Or that Cornelius was played by Arthur Hill? (Fun side note. While in NY with the play, Prunella studied acting with Uta Hagen who seven years later would do a little show with Arthur.)

Nothing makes you grasp more keenly the essential unfairness of life than getting in an insanely long grocery checkout line that nobody joins behind you till you’re finally alone at the front, and a newcomer saunters up just as two cashiers say, “Next!”

I once spent a few afternoons at Matthew Perry’s house, co-rewriting the Odd Couple pilot after his first draft was nixed by CBS. At one point I said that when I was stuck on a story problem, a walk often helped me solve it. Matthew said, “I can’t really do that.” (1/3)

Question for the new Speaker of the House: If a man can legally marry one woman, what's to stop him from marrying five Girl Scouts, a zebra, and a Museum of Fine Arts?

Say what you like about Jim Jordan, he didn't try to criminalize gay sex. He never even noticed it.

If Jordan observed no abuse when he was a wrestling coach, how did he get such a knack for rubbing members the wrong way?

RIP to the great Piper Laurie. On Frasier she played the estranged mother of Dr. Nora, our comment on Dr. Laura, the homophobic radio shrink. Frasier's attempt at a sweet on-air reconciliation didn't go quite as he hoped it would, but Laurie and Christine Baranski both got Emmy nominations.

If you and a colleague introduce a baby in the series finale of a beloved show and that baby shows up as a series regular in a new show two decades later, are you entitled to character payments? Asking for a friend.

Not sure what annoys me more, finding that my third novel was used without permission to train generative AI, or that my first two books somehow failed to make the cut.

Quite the tipsy faux pas here from David Brooks. Even his older brother Foster is embarrassed for him.

The more I watch and write and obsessively analyze comedy, the more it seems governed by just two basic laws: (1) People won’t laugh at what they don’t believe, but (2) they’ll believe anything if it’s sufficiently delightful.
End of feed.
