During the development of A Funny Thing Happened On The Way To The Forum, Jerry Robbins agreed to direct if the authors got the option back from Mr. ෴, and have Hal Prince produce it. Mr. ෴ predicted Robbins would quit, but released it. And then Robbins quit. Sondheim wrote Mr. ෴ this apology:
