Read this about the conversation...I think I mostly agree though with the benefit of decades away I simply don't see the argument about the ending. Emotionally if Harry had asked hey what's up with this mystery at the end it would have been emotionally worse. Imo

This is great, I saw the conversation for the first time this yr and loved it - thanks for sharing. I agree - his failure to ask about the couple is a symptom of his isolation and paranoia. He's a good eavesdropper, not a good detective because he's lost the ability to connect with people imho.
Yes he also spends so long in the movie struggling with not knowing and not being known that I don't think he can bring himself to ask in the same he cannot bring himself to stop the murder when it happens. He is not Jimmy Stewart in rear window he's trapped by himself and the system he built
