Consequences of actions are empirical questions. What outcomes are acceptable is a normative question. Planetary boundaries are created by people. Scientific information is relevant, but not determinative. thebreakthroughjournal.substack.com/p/how-planet...

Citations were always gameable and imperfect. Apparently, they may soon be so easily gamed as to be useless. What should be done? Proposals?
The scientific community is definitely going to want to think abt trustworthy citation metrics, so $50 on Fiverr can't "boost citations and h-index." The answer has got to be: 'build institutions that can certify.' NIH? Prof societies? 🧪 www.fiverr.com/brain...

The years of 1877 and 1878 stand out as the most extreme warm temperature anomalies relative to the decadal mean. The high temperature anomalies were associated with drought and global famine. journals.ametsoc.org/view/journal...

Most research scientists who have worked on climate engineering reject the "buying time" framing. When it comes to energy system transition, there is no time left to buy. We have already squandered decades in senseless delay. www.nytimes.com/2024/03/31/c...
Can We Engineer Our Way Out of the Climate Crisis?www.nytimes.com Blocking solar rays. Sucking carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Ideas that sound like science fiction are now starting to become reality, raising concerns about safety.

I am looking for a figure showing, for different amounts of CO2 release to the atmosphere: 1. What fraction of CO2 remains in the atmosphere after complete equilibration with seawater? 2. What fraction of CO2 remains in the atmosphere after equilibration with seawater and carbonate sediments?

There has been a lot of talk of fraud in science, but we need to recall that this is against a background of tremendous scientific advance. Scientific fraud is the exception, the man bites dog story. The everyday story is scientists making discoveries that drive our economy and improve our lives.
