Theaters are in a really rough spot, atm. I don’t think they’ll disappear entirely, but they now have to compete with the comforts of home, so my guess is that we’ll have a lot fewer of them, and they’ll have fewer screens and be more focused on premium large formats.
There was an episode of Max Headroom where Edison and Bryce were trapped/hiding in an old movie theater, Bryce expressed disbelief that a large group of people would watch a single screen all together at the same time. I thought, then, how silly that sounded. But now? *sigh*
