Also, now that it's Disability Pride month I'd love to remind and/or inform people! marriage equality includes marriage equality for people with disabilities. The government can and will suddenly cut-off people's disability payments if they get married. ๐Ÿ‘๐ŸŽ‡๐Ÿณ๏ธโ€๐ŸŒˆ

Yet another piece of BS that shouldnโ€™t be allowed to be structured so badly, and yet just is.

Yeah. If anything, I think it's by design sadly.

In Australia, in some ways it is worse. Don't even have to be married. They will cut if the government decides you are in a "marriage-like relationship" which is applied inconsistently and in some cases doesn't actually require you to be sharing finances.

Wow that is definitely worse in some ways ๐Ÿ˜ญ governments in general I feel tend to not be great at helping disabled people, that sucks

And theres 2 different types of disability in the US, so the rules depend on which youre on. like; if you're on SSDI if you get married, your spouse's income can get your SSDI taxed or if you marry someone else disabled both of yours can get maxed out at 25%~ less than if you two werent married 1/2

or if you're on SSI, they can determine that youre "holding out as married" if you live with a partner, and then their income applies to your SSI same as if you were married 2/2

aauauaugghhhhh the government sucks ๐Ÿ˜ญ I remember that the government tried to pull stuff on my ex's mother while i was living with her plus if she made like 800 bucks in a month they'd pull her whole payment

There's actually four kinds. Two will result in an almost automatic loss of benefits if you get married, Disabled Widow(er)'s and Disabled Adult Child (exception if you marry another DAC).
