if our politicians and institutions won’t stand up for public health workers (and they, for the most part, have not), then why would folks stay in these jobs under constant threat? i continue to stress that no one else has the skills/knowledge to do this work
Many of my public health colleagues have faced more threats than I have.
People are leaving the field - at a time when, my gods, do we need good people. And I can't fault them. These jobs aren't worth risking your families safety over.
A USPHS officer told me, "if they equipped and trained us like the Navy - gave us a sidearm, body armor, took care of our families, then maybe. But they don't"
