I wanted to write something that was realistically positive. I, too, am concerned about this hurricane season. But I also know the intricacies and inherent risks associated with trying to forecast the future. This is my way of saying “keep calm and carry on.”

Today was probably the most miserably hot May day in Houston’s history. The heat index at Hobby Airport got as high as 115°. We didn’t even get that high last summer.

Storms are advancing east but not really a lot of southerly motion to these, so storms mainly along/north TX-105 still seems like a good bet. Houston and most of the metro for now remains fine.

My takeaway from this is that last week's event stands alone as the worst non-hurricane wind event in Houston's history. But there's precedent for similar events occurring in the past. Given the sprawling growth of the region, it's tough to determine how bad those would be today.

Outages are down below 75,000 now across the Houston area per the Centerpoint site. The last mile can be the hardest, but hopefully a majority of y’all still suffering will get power back today. 🤞🏼

The current heat index situation in the Houston area can best be described as “unbearable for May.”

Pretty incredible rainfall event unfolding north of Houston tonight. Areas just north of Lake Livingston have seen 6-10" of rainfall, with one Trinity River Authority gauge (Caney Creek @ Fryday) recording 6" in an hour.
