This unassuming little mass market book contains some of the best stories I’ve ever encountered in the genre. Are you familiar with Jane Rice’s Idol of the Flies? If not, I urge you to seek it out. It’s just one of many bangers in this little volume, but it packs a huge punch.
Halloween mood, old timey-style: I strongly recommend the short stories of Ray Russell, The Feast at the Abbey by Robert Bloch (written when he was only 17!), and The Loved Dead by C.M. Eddy.
