I was pretty close 2 months ago. I got Salazar wrong and missed Kessinger. Also I got Graveman wrong and missed Stanek, but how was I gonna know he would have shoulder soreness?
I did call Singleton!
My way too early projection for the ALDS roster:
12 pitchers:
Framber, JV, Javier, Brown
Pressly, Graveman, Abreu, Neris, Maton, Montero, Urquidy, France
3 catchers:
Maldonado, Diaz, Salazar
11 position players:
Abreu, Altuve, Pena, Bregman
Yordan, Chas, Tucker, Brantley
Meyers, Dubon, Singleton
It’s game day!
- is Dubon starting in CF? Will it be at the expense of Chas or Brantley in the lineup?
- are you ready for one of the lineup spots to be used on the human equivalent of an emotional support animal for the pitcher?
Let’s go!
Every year I get an alert that it’s time to renew the Athletic for like $70 and without fail, I go to cancel the sub and it goes “no wait! just kidding, we’ll take $20!”
Altuve is day to day, with an off day tomorrow, Verlander is pitching, and they’re facing a lefty. My lineup prediction (which Astros fans aren’t going to like.)
Dubon 2B
Tucker RF
Bregman 3B
Alvarez DH
McCormick LF
Meyers CF
Pena SS
Hensley 1B
Maldonado C
I hate it already.
Today’s Astros lineup prediction:
Altuve DH
Bregman 3B
Alvarez LF
Tucker RF
McCormick CF
Dubon 2B
Pena SS
Hensley 1B
Maldonado C
Possibly Meyers instead of McCormick even with Urquidy being a flyball pitcher. In any case, it’s gonna be a lineup that people are going to freak out over.
Reveal something unusual about yourself that few people know.
Me: I was set on fire in the Arctic Circle by an exploding lamp while embedded with NATO forces. It was -20C (-4F) so I had on 3 pairs of trousers to keep warm. It burned through the first 2 but not the 3rd before I jumped into a drift.
Day game after night game. Might be a fool’s game to try to guess what Dusty is thinking but hereMs my prediction of today’s Astros lineup:
Altuve 2B
Bregman 3B
Alvarez DH
Tucker RF
McCormick LF
Diaz C
Singleton 1B
Pena SS
Meyers CF
or alternately, Abreu 1B/Singleton DH/Yordan LF

For those of you who like Immaculate Grid , try Singular Grid.

Made by @mrlizzie.bsky.social ‘s son. It’s a grid that has 1 answer that satisfies all the squares. You can play however many times you want, get hints, and limit the puzzles to players of a time period.
I love all the vague language around the trade deadline. “Inching closer to a deal”, “talks intensifying.”
If I step a step to my right, I’m inching closer to France. Doesn’t mean I need to get my passport ready.
If I turn the dimmer from 10% to 20%, the light intensifies. But it’s still dark.
Caught the A’s-Rockies game tonight. (A surprisingly great turnout for a game between the worst records in the AL and NL)
Coors Field is absolutely amazing.
(The Rockies unfortunately were not.)
If the Astros complete the sweep of the Rangers tomorrow:
- They’ll have secured the 2023 Silver Boot.
- They will be in first place in the AL West.
Their record will be tied with TEX, but the tiebreaker goes to the Silver Boot winner.
That means the next win essentially counts as two wins.
If the Mets agree to eat some of the salary, the Astros would definitely bring Verlander back to bolster their decimated 2023 rotation.
The problem might be prospect return. Years and years of being deadline buyers and the loss of 1st and 2nd rd picks for 2 years has left the cupboard pretty bare.
If the Mets continue to shit the bed and fall completely out of contention what do you think their trade deadline return can be? Do they offload Scherzer/Verlander? Pham? Robertson? Can they get some high level pitching prospects from a team that is actually in contention to win now?
