"The received view among the Labour hierarchy is that it would be too risky to fight an election promising to rejoin the EU." They're too afraid even to call out the catastrophic effects of being outside the SM & CU. 'Lie to win'. It's how we are where we are. www.theguardian.com/business/202...
Brexit’s pint-sized ‘benefits’ are a measure of its failure | William Keeganwww.theguardian.com Wine in imperial measures, we are told, is ‘what leaving was all about’, while the UK struggles outside the single market

I mean, it's pretty much a given that they will likely pursue closer ties. More than the tories would anyway.

It’s pretty much a given that anyone who wants to undo Brexit can’t trust Starmer. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Two weeks is a long time in politics, never mind nearly two years.

Yes in the last 2 years Starmer has broken every pledge he made in the leadership election. Anyone who trusts him is an idiot. He’s just another fraud like Johnson.

Anyone who takes anything a politician says at face value is an idiot. But with the lack of a better, viable solution that isn't pure fantasy, we're stuck with choosing the lesser of two evils. Otherwise, we are just telling the current batch of criminals that are in charge that we consent.

Something Starmer has repeatedly said he would do.

You’re clearly referring to some Starmer who isn’t the leader of the Labour Party. www.theguardian.com/politics/202...

Because there are other ways to get closer than immediately trying to rejoin the single market. What has been done can not quickly be undone, no matter how much we might wish it were so.
Avatar
Name one. Then show that Starmer has talked about it.

You believe the Torygraph. Did you notice the article has no direct quote to substantiate your claim?
Avatar
But - is - Starmer - listening - yet?!
Avatar
No, they have not designed a public empathy hearing aid yet.
Avatar
What about a national, public & societal interest ear-trumpet, then?
Avatar
Not loud enough needs at least 1000 Watts of amplification.

Or possibly stadium rock wattage? The inner sanctum has crammed so much cotton wool in its collective ears, & has been backpedalling furiously on just about every sound commitment it had made. Starmer may come out next & say Corruption is not actually so bad - we pledge to retain Tory commitments.

And believe me, I'm absolutely no Corbynite, no ideologically crazed struttingly smarmy self-righteous pseudo-socialist .... I am always somewhere between centre and left - but am appalled at Starmer's senseless spine-cracking acrobatics in ludicrous defiance of public interest (in both senses).

Meanwhile Labour have gone full swivel eye loon with their ‘Make Brexit Work’ nonsense.
Avatar
Let's hope Labour listen then. Won't be holding my breath

On twitter I have explained my views on this. In brief clever words, use of agreements at this point, in the political & MSM landscape, will provide better access but not as before. EU can't allow us to return yet for many internal & legal reasons but that does not stop significant closer ties.
