Pay attention to the scholarship of Black women in AI. Like, extra attention: The default in tech is to forget it when you see it, even if by accident.
to research real harms & threats of current AI (i.e corp capture, disproportionate negative impact on marginalised, shallow & harmful co-options of ethics (x-risk)) as a Black woman is to overwork till burnout only for your contribution to be ignored & continually to be gaslit 1/
Absolutely, and as importantly, the experiences and insights of Black practitioners, activists, snd scholars writing on systemic racism and sexism over 50-plus or 100-plus years. I’d add Calvin Lawrence’s book, Hidden in White Sight: How AI Empowers and Deepens Systemic Racism.
So yes. And no one should misinterpret this as only about data and algorithmic bias, not when “non-bias” is to yield systemically disparate outcomes. Bell, Crenshaw, Baldwin and others are essential reads on what unfounded claims to trustworthiness do to Black people.
Also, in line with your recent collaborations on press guidance, there is a need to understand that both misogynoir and misandrynoir exist, pervasively. And per Kendi, anyone can hold a racist idea. Black and Black-adjacent thought and allyship are surveilled, demonized, disciplined, and punished.
