I am a mortal, and liable to fall. Editor at large for Commonweal magazine; writing at https://www.commonwealmagazine.org/users/mollie-wilson-o%E2%80%99reilly and sometimes other places, too.
I have been harping on this ever since, because he did it *in a sitdown with the NYT* and they didn't just let it go, they (Maggie Haberman specifically) bailed him out!! Pardon the self-linking; I am just so glad someone else remembers. www.commonwealmagazine.org/man-who-knew...
I just found out about these CHAOTIC new Alex Trebek postage stamps and I said, Bluesky needs to see this! (Get yours starting July 22 store.usps.com/store/produc...)
New species unlocked: this morning on the Bronx River Pathway, I came across this softshell turtle! She was as big as a serving platter and surprisingly nimble—I think she was coming onto land to nest, but when I got closer I spooked her and she scrambled back into the river. Sorry, mama.
Today I went for a run and saw TWO nesting snapping turtles! The first one, some ladies were like, "Did you see that massive turtle?" And I looked and there she was and then she lifted her tail and I saw an egg PLOP into the nest! I am a longtime turtle nut, so this is a very exciting day for me.
To be fair like half the negative comments are from this one guy having a very normal one. (This is a reply to a person who said "My daughters went and had a great time! Thank you!")

And then, about half a mile on, I caught up to the same ladies and they had just spotted a SECOND snapper, this one on her way back to the river after nesting (I presume). Amazing.
I'm watching the Gershwin Prize ceremony honoring Elton John and Bernie Taupin, and it's great of course, but there's a guy sitting behind Elton John who looks totally miserable and it makes me laugh every time they cut to him.
Some people take amazing pictures of the birds they encounter, but I took this picture of the footprints a bird left on my front porch after it stepped in its own poop, and I think it's worh sharing.
