I haven't read the article but I was under the impression that the natives of Rapanui were sort of invaded/enslaved by folks from South America. Now I'm clicking the article!
I don’t have a solid grip on the history, but would like to know more. Also interested in where those first Polynesian settlers came from, given their agricultural skills.
I've been following as well as I can modern archaeology etc about the Polynesian expansion, all I know for sure really is they all originated around Taiwan and the SE Asian islands there, I think several waves came directly from there but I don't remember which islands they settled first.
