This morning I stopped at a florist’s shop to get a bouquet my wife and sister-in-law reminded me we needed for an occasion later today. There happened to be no prepared bouquets, so I picked out some types and colors of flowers and proceeded to watch in abject wonder as the florist created art.
My #KingdomCome post reminded me that I’ve revisited a lot of classics recently, including @neilhimself.neilgaiman.com’s Sandman, the ‘70s Shazam! hardcovers, @markwaid.bsky.social’s JLA: Year One, the Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne X-Men, among others. No reflection on modern stuff. Just remembering.
This past weekend, I reread @markwaid.bsky.social and Alex Ross’s Kingdom Come. Probably my sixth or so read-through since its original publication. Still brilliant. Still meaningful. Still among the best comic books of all time. #Superman#DCComics#KingdomCome
Again today, I’m confronted with the idea that a face-to-face meeting of the Ziploc people and the breakfast cereal people could be life-changing for many of us.
Loved World’s Finest: Teen Titans! In fact, I was so into each issue that I didn’t realize it was a limited series—until the end of the sixth issue. Now, I’d like to see @markwaid.bsky.social at the helm of World’s Finest: Doom Patrol and World’s Finest: The Robin/Jimmy Olsen Team!
Waid and Mora squeeze so much story and so much respectful absurdity (I think that makes sense) into this issue!
DC’s best title for 27 issues now!

LOVED how @timsheridan.bsky.social’s Alan Scott: The Green Lantern wrapped up in no. 6. So much heart! Truly affecting! Gotta say, I’d love to see the JSA continue with him, Vendetti, and Adams at the helm, perhaps guiding the series and each writer taking on a different arc.
@markwaid.bsky.social, you were right about World’s Finest no. 27: I’m a Jimmy Olsen fan, and the Olsen Squad rocks! The cliffhanger made me literally guffaw! Can hardly wait for the next issue!
@tomtaylormade.bsky.social and @brunoredondo.bsky.social’s Nightwing no. 114 is a winner, for sure! That’s how you do a cliffhanger! I hate that this team is leaving this series after making it one of my favorite titles, but I’m eager to read this final storyline in full.
@tomking.bsky.social and @sampereart.bsky.social's Wonder Woman no. 9 is, perhaps, the best issue to date—an engaging exploration—in extremely trying circumstances—of what makes Diana tick. The Sovereign's in so much trouble.
Plus, hey, corgis!
I've read the first two issues of DC's monthly re-release of Crisis on Infinite Earths. I read the series as it was originally released in 1985-86, and I've read it couple of times in collected form. But, wow, reading it as a monthly again is a wonderful edge-of-the-seat experience. It's 1985 again!
Remember back in the early to mid-‘90s, when people—particularly elected officials—blamed bad behavior among children and teenagers on Bart Simpson and then, a few years later, on South Park?
Now, I just blame elected officials.
@kellythompson.bsky.social, congratulations on the Eisner nomination! Based on my enjoyment of Birds of Prey, I found and read the first issue of The Cull, and it’s awesome! Cannot wait to read the rest of the series!
If I behaved at work the way people in Congress act when they’re on the job—like, say, serving on the House Oversight Committee, I’d be let go so fast I wouldn’t know had hit me.
