Oscar Mayer Sack o' Sauce in a Can o' Meat (1948-circa 1955): A novel innovation, in which a meat product was sealed in a can, along with a separate bag of sauce to accompany it. The idea was to package both together for convenience, but separate to retain flavor and texture
It's a shame they didn't diversify the sack o' sauce, they basically gave us "mild bbq sauce" and nothing else. Imagine the possibilities now! Sack o' honey mustard, sack o'sweet Thai chili, sack o' Buffalo, sack o'Cajun honey butter, sack o' "Mulan" Szechuan Sauce...
my favourite part about this ad copy is how "mild" is repeatedly trotted out as one of the most delicious adjectives that can be applied to food. you gotta check out this sauce! it's mild as hell!
