Kids who want to do art: Don't give up. Go to art school.
Have a fall back plan to make enough money to survive, but do art.
If all the art schools close, then learn by other means.
AI is NOT the future. You are.
This is writing not art, but the smartest woman I ever met went to university for a high-paying job she could do for half the year in order to give her time to write.
This is in reference to the fact that a lot of smaller art schools are closing or merging with other institutions because they can't get enough students.
And I don't want kids who want to do art thinking art is extinct/obsolete and getting depressed.
There are a lot of scammy art schools out there, and if those are the ones that are closing then maybe the students have figured it out?
Based on very limited sample (my son and the folks I follow on Bluesky) I don't think kids are giving up on art.
