George Michael was a good man who was absolutely savaged by the tabloids for being who he was with no apologies. In the end, his heart simply gave out.
It’s not just the media. It’s people in general who contribute to the destruction of others. Most people think they are good. That’s the problem. The media is forced to chase stories. Others aren’t. Apologies if this is too general. People can be good and caring but mostly aren’t.
It’s the people who engage in philanthropy without any publicity, like George Michael, who impress me. Had a local guy like that who died a few years back. Retired businessman, not wealthy by comparison to George Michael. 1/2
But it turned out that every year for 30-odd years he had bought up $150,000 of medical debt (which usually cost him $15-25,000,) and forgiven the debt. Wish I could do that.
It's an amazing instinct, someone with a large fortune who sees people suffering and struggling on television and makes the thing they need the most in the moment happen. It's what I would hope to be if I had the resources, a natural instinct of human empathy.
