I remember the WMAP data came out right around the time I was getting into physics, iirc one of the very first SciAms I bought had it on the cover. but I'd never really understood what the picture implied, even after getting a physics degree
as she describes in the video, there's so much in physics that's presented as "the consequences of this are obvious" because the scientists spend a huge amount of time looking at the data and then it's a little embarrassing to out yourself as not being in the know
