I remember the WMAP data came out right around the time I was getting into physics, iirc one of the very first SciAms I bought had it on the cover. but I'd never really understood what the picture implied, even after getting a physics degree

(not that it's very hard but I guess I never went back and looked into it until now)

as she describes in the video, there's so much in physics that's presented as "the consequences of this are obvious" because the scientists spend a huge amount of time looking at the data and then it's a little embarrassing to out yourself as not being in the know

reminded me of one of my teachers ranting about people who explain away the Tacoma Narrows Bridge disaster with "oh it's just resonance"

also reminded me that thinking about the early universe used to make me anxious as hell. and it still does
