OMG, great find!!! How close were you before you saw it? I'll bet it was hard to see there, and... I kinda guess they stay still during the daylight, using the ground as camouflage?
Oh man I've been looking for the neighborhood common Nighthawks for weeks, and I see them in the air but no idea where they disappear to.
