Bloody Buron: Highland Light Infantry vs the 12th SSyoutu.be On July 8, 1944, the Highland Light Infantry of Canada (HLI) attacked and captured the village Buron, west of Caen during Operation Charnwood. The battle was the HLI's first battle in Normandy. The fighting was so difficult with such high casualties that battle became known as Bloody Buron.
