A cool pattern is: - media covers a thing that hasn’t gotten much attention - something elevates that thing in prominence - people now paying attention complain that the media isn’t covering it

Anytime someone says “why isn’t the media covering this” I assume at least 10 prominent outlets have covered it and that the news didn’t come across the complainer’s social media feed leading them to assume nobody else cared.

I think a very real factor here is people still assume they can keep track of every prominent media outlet and thus if they haven't seen it it doesn't exist. The fact that our brains may not be able to process the amount of information we suddenly have access to hasn't dawned on a lot of people.

"Constant news everywhere all the time" is harder to keep track of than "Paper in the morning, radio during the day, evening news at night", wildly.

WHY ISN'T ANYONE WRITING ABOUT THIS?

I love it when people say "the media isn't covering [this event]!" and i'm like... either "how did you find out about this?" (which the answer being the media) or sending them a screenshot of search results of multiple major news stories about [event].

My favorite is when right-wing media manufactures something (sanctuary cities, caravans, CRT, plagiarism, etc.) then mainstream media covers it because “people are talking about it.”
