Part of what has people so hot about this is that they remember back in 2016 when Hillary was also accused of having Parkinson's, also without any hard evidence, and that news organizations seem to have learned very little from that experience.

"over their skis" Is that a delicate way to say "laundered right-wing disinformation into a front-page story without checking it for basic factual accuracy first"? I'm more worried about the infirmities of our political press than I am the candidates (and I'm worried about the candidates plenty).

Democracy dies in the light too, apparently. Mainstream media has repeatedly disgraced itself by chasing non-existent, non-proven stories, all to be first to tank Biden's chances in November and hand the presidency to Trump ("Dictator on Day 1").

That's a bit too gentle. They made goddamned fools of themselves, especially the NYT, and further stigmatized Parkinson's patients. Assholes and liars.

That’s a diplomatic way of saying it. Poor or no reporting, poor and unreliable sourcing. Lazy biased journalism.

One thing that deserves mentioning: in their rush to diagnose him over the TV with Parkinson's, they've forgotten that people with Parkinson's are actually quite lucid for quite a while! Parkinson's Dementia is a late staged symptom, long after physical tremors are noticeable and uncontrolled.

Did any of the journalists or editors responsible get interviewed about their motives? It may have been "eagerness," but it may have been a smear. Or it may have been an understanding that a shocking story makes more money, even if it isn't vetted. Not sure we should be speculating as to motive.

Why no "shocking" invented stories about Republicans?

Some people? The Times basically ripped a garbage story out of the pages of the Post put a new byline on it and then every other "serious" outlet in the country, including yours, jumped on the pile within minutes. Everybody involved should be flogged.

"To an extent, this controversy is a function of the White House’s approach to information about the president" Really Phil? Seems to me that this controversy is a function of just how much the NYT wants another Trumpo admin and how pissed they are at Biden for not giving them a long interview.

Thank you for being a voice of reason on this. When I saw all the visits during Obama's presidency, it made me really angry that this was treated as a significant story. & if Biden had had Parkinson's since then, pretty sure we would physically see it.
