Right now in the museum world, nothing is more important than the artist's biography, UNLESS it's, say, Carl Andre or Paul Gauguin, in which case let's not dwell on biography.

We call it “the voice of the artist” now instead (although there are many instances when having it is much more preferable than the [omniscient, secret or obscured] voice of the curator, so I wrestle with it).

I was very surprised when a curator recently told me he was going to display a Chuck Close painting. I thought, "OK, well, I guess that's over."
