An 'Improved Patent Magneto Electric Machine for Nervous Diseases', made by Joseph Gray & Son in Sheffield, England. In the 19th century, mild electric shocks were a popular treatment for a range of ailments, especially those associated with the nerves. Ref RI.W2002.1509 Te Hikoi Museum.

Interestingly, although the designs on this pipe are distinctly Māori, the silver band which attaches to the stem is hallmarked as being made in Birmingham, 1910. Ref RI.W2001.136 Te Hikoi Museum

Band in a bottle, undated. Usually these were crafted outside the bottle, or made in the bottle with long-handled tools. This model was put in, already complete, by removing the base of the bottle, then covering the base with textile. Ref RI.W2002.1475 Te Hikoi Museum.

A pair of railway spectacles, first worn in the 19th century by passengers of railway or horse-drawn carriages. The double blue-tinted lenses on each side were used to add eye protection while travelling in open carriages. Ref RI.W2001.74 Te Hikoi Museum.

Memorial plaque issued to the family of George Sampson, an Invercargill builder who died on 16 June 1917. These were issued after WW1 to the next of kin of all British Empire service personnel killed as a result of the war, and were known as the 'Dead Man's Penny'. Ref W2002.1713 Te Hikoi Museum.
