If anything, I'm surprised the number isn't higher. The cultural expectation around here is that if the light is turning red, you accelerate to try to go through it. Two or three cars will typically go through a red on each cycle. If you brake on an orange light, you risk getting rear-ended.

Starman (3/8) Movie CLIP - Yellow Light, Go Very Fast (1984) HDwww.youtube.com Starman movie clips: http://bit.ly/2cY4UxF BUY THE MOVIE: http://j.mp/QLKjWj Don't miss the HOTTEST NEW TRAILERS: http://bit.ly/1u2y6pr CLIP DESCRIPTION: Jenny (Karen Allen) convinces Starman (Jeff Bridges) to stop for food, but when he runs a yellow light, she questions his ability to drive. FILM DESCRIPTION: Having crashed to Earth, an extraterrestrial space traveller must assume a human identity lest he be captured by the authorities. The alien (Jeff Bridges) chooses the likeness of the recently deceased husband of Jenny Hayden (Karen Allen). At first dumbstruck, Jenny becomes both hostile toward and frightened of her guest. He gradually wins her confidence, learning a few vital English-language phrases so that he can explain his presence. The "starman" has come to Earth with a message of peace, in response to the similar message sent out on Voyager One. He asks for Jenny's help in transporting him to the Nevada desert, where his fellow aliens are to pick him up and take him to his home planet. Soon he and Jenny form a united front against a mean-spirited National Security Council agent (Richard Jaeckel), who intends to seize the starman and turn him over for scientific scrutiny (and possible extermination). While en route to Nevada, Jenny grows closer to the gentle-natured Starman, eventually making love with him. By the time he is poised to leave, she is carrying his child, leaving the field wide open for a sequel--which was never produced, though a weekly TV version surfaced in 1986. Standard procedure: Run the test on the most obvious intersection, declare Serious Problem. Contract w red light video company for all intersections. Cash checks. "Accident reductions? What accident reductions? This is about revenue, er, compliance enforcement."

Work zones are a very specific thing where it makes sense to enforce aggressively. We were talking about red light cams.

I didn't know they were banned, jfc. In surely unrelated news, cars have driven into 2 buildings on my block in the last month.

Banned quite a while ago. The town I lived in in NJ 10+ years ago had been putting up Opticons -- little receivers that let emergency vehicles turn the lights green in only one direction -- and I could not convince a family member they were not red light cameras

Three times been low speed hit by a car rolling through a stop when I was already in the crosswalk. One guy started screaming at me and said next time he wasn't gonna slow down.

God I hate being a pedestrian in this state.

I can still argue that red light cameras fail the constitutional question, as they eliminate the human factor in law enforcement. The right to confront your accuser is enshrined in the US Constitution, and cameras cannot legally stand before the court as a person.

red light cameras are a public health measure--like cigarette tax, they also have the benefit of raising funds
