Do you use the Merlin app? The step-by-step ID is pretty good at getting you close enough to tell from the photos.

I do use Merlin but honestly don’t even try with gulls. aren’t they notoriously tough to ID?

The differences can be subtle, but I've had pretty good luck IDing them with Merlin. At least it gets you a smaller set of photos to look through based on what's likely to be around at a given time of year.
