Protest votes don’t work. Since 2000, every time progresives have tried that gambit - not voting for the Democrat in the general election to pull the party left - the next Democratic candidate was still a centrist, and a Republican winner did irreparable harm the democrat would not have done.
Every single political strategy for every general election in the US needs to account for Duverger's Law, and I refuse to read the work of anyone who doesn't acknowledge it.
