Today's campaign diary feels like a microcosm of what the two big parties are all about. Keir Starmer is visiting the families of knife crime victims; Rishi Sunak is having tea with the Emperor of Japan.
That‘s actually not quite fair. The Emperor of Japan is on a state visit. It’s Sunak‘s job to be there. Sunak offers ample cause for criticism, cheap shots are not necessary.
If Keir Starmer was PM he’d have to give up a days campaigning to do his actual job too.
