Always a pleasant surprise to get some dry season rain. Not a lot, but enough to settle the dust and make things smell nice. #Isiolo #northernKenya

The statistics confirm what we have all been witnessing here in northern Kenya. 3 years of drought where children were malnourished, and in some cases starving. Then floods that washed away their homes, their schools and left them hungry all over again.

The intense rainfall across East Africa has been devastating for many people, but it has also recharged shallow water sources and fuelled abundant vegetation growth. Helping the semi arid areas of northern Kenya and Somalia recover from 3 years of drought. #kenya #climatecrisis

Nairobi has 7 rivers. Instead of facing a scary future of ever worsening floods, these rivers could make it the jewel in the crown of African cities. This informative video gives a glimpse of what could be. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-fQN...

This area has been over-grazed by livestock for many years. An elder told me that when he was a boy there were fewer trees and more grass on the plains, and of course none of the erosion gullies. I think the Mukogodo forest would also have extended to these slopes. #environment #aridlands #Kenya

The Great North Road, approaching Ololokwe, in 2023 and in 2008 (before it truly became great). This is now one of the best roads in Kenya. It takes you through some of the vast and stunning scenery of the northern half of the country. #roadtrip #northernkenya #kenyasafari #Kenya

This is what the #climatecrisis looks like. Global warming increases the intensity and frequency of extreme weather that results in flooding of farm land. It’s ok though - water is a plant drink right 🤡

I love this photo. Perfectly captures the challenges of travelling in the rural parts of Kenya during the rainy season. Where are the paved roads and bridges over rivers? Not here. #rainyseason #travelling #Kenya

Heavy rains washed away good sections of roads connecting North Horr, Dukana and Illeret cutting off transport and supplies of food. Many houses are under water and livestock washed by the floods. (Photos from @WGAdhe1 on X) #rainyseason #northernkenya #climatecrisis #marsabit #kenya

From NOAA "The amount of CO2 in the atmosphere today is comparable to around 4.3 million years ago, when sea level was about 75 ft higher than today, the average temp was 7 degrees F higher than in pre-industrial times, & large forests occupied areas of the Arctic that are now tundra."

Flooding in North Horr on the 7th April, Marsabit county, Kenya. Photo credit @AKabelo on X. It's not that there were never floods before, its the frequency and scale that is worrying. #climatecrisis #Kenya
