I was astonished to see that the National Weather Service was actually defending itself against accusations that it was “fearmongering”.

I think the only one comparable in recent memory was the record-breaking 10-day heat dome in September 2022. I try to get through these things without using AC, but finally turned it on for a bit during that one. May have to this time too. Just using fans so far.

It was less than 2 years ago, yet I don’t remember that one. But if the current forecast proves accurate, this one might rival it. I have my AC on now and I’m so grateful that I have one as I know many people do not. Keep cool, my friend! 😎

The worst I remember was during the summer of 2020, when we couldn't open the windows at night to cool down the house because of the wildfire smoke, and most places we would ordinarily go to cool off were closed due to the pandemic. After that we decided to put in AC (and rooftop solar).

Yeah, I remember. With all that going on, it felt like the end times, and the sky looked like this.

Sorry that you're going through that, Scott. Last year in Houston was brutal, and I don't wish that on anyone. The heat has been more normal for us this year. It's been hot but doable so far.

And last year wasn’t too terrible for us. I guess different parts of the country take turns.
