Yes, but are they really worried about it or putting in a halfway plausible reason/fig leaf for saying what they want to say anyway?

I'm sorry, but this is such a fundamental misunderstanding of what happened here. Roberts is not worried about future hypotheticals - he wants Donald Trump to win an election in 2024. That, first and foremost, is what guided the majority.
