Trump is a uniquely terrible individual and needs to be stopped no matter what
but there is no salvaging the rest of the party, it is beyond repair and there are no Reasonable Republicans to go back to
the whole thing needs to be crushed into oblivion
Just from an anthropology/political science standpoint, it's gonna be fascinating to see what happens to the party when Trump kicks it. Gonna be a real fight between people who want a more Mitch McConnell–style party and true Trumpists.
They're all evil, of course.
see, I don't think that's going to be the fight
that fight already happened, Mitch and company lost completely
I think it's going to be between the different people trying to position themselves as the next Trump
Yeah to me the future looks more like a fight between the Vivek Ramaswamy ideologues trying to take up the Trump vacuum or Senate/House Rs who have won at least one election and had some real world organizational duties with their state/local parties and know how much work it is.
I *definitely* agree that people will be trying to be the next Trump! That's already started!
But I do think there will be some old-schoolers looking to recapture the party. You might be right that they're weak enough that they'll likely fail.
And it's really funny how many of the people trying to position themselves that way are just vile, small people who somehow lack even the weird, abhorrent charisma Trump does
Watching Ron DeSantis's campaign fall on its face the minute he had to interact with people was hilarious.
agree, they need to be destroyed, not just stopped - because they will regroup and pick up where they left off. but is there anyone with power that sees it this way?
Begging people to understand that Republicans are trying to exploit how the system is designed to work. A party with a majority in the house and Senate can make the electoral college result whatever they want.
The best way to do this is have a total loser candidate for President and discourage mail-in voting by seniors in rural areas along and a lot of people voting Republican for house and Senate who will see it as a check on second term Biden agenda.
