I remember seeing this in 1998 and thinking SNL ripped off The Nation, which had a big issue on media consolidation in 1996 that used octopi. Exactly like the video. Here’s a snippet from that June 3, 1996 issue. It looks very similar.

So to me, the SNL piece was kind of a hit job on the Nation’s work, as you’d obviously have to be cra-cra, or a Nation reader, to be worried about this stuff.
