London born, long term resident in Italy. Was an architect, once, but not in the way you'd think!
Serious interests are many, but often political. Silly interests are cats and Formula 1!

Oh FFS. Trump arranges a MAGA beanfest, a deranged sniperette clips Trumps ear, and it's the fault of Biden. Pull the other one. (Of course, much sympathy for the non combatants caught up in this.)

Apropos of absolutely nothing, why do i recall "the battle of Jenkin's Ear" (and why can't I be arsed to look it up.).

Are there any Archers fans on here? I just wish they'd get on with it! This is the second time all of the listeners have the low down on a crime, but none of the cast have a scooby doo. It gets boring (you might challenge the tense I'm using!)

I mean, not judgemental or anything, but WHY are you watching the football?

That goal looked rather skilful (not that I know anything about footie). Can we have another one please?

This account is rather fun!

I couldn't watch the men's semis at Wimbledon today (I was on a flaky 4g) so I thought I'd listen instead on BBC Radio5Live. It wasn't good. 50 years ago on Radio 2 (Long Wave) I regularly enjoyed audio described tennis, but now it's a silly chat show with lots of football cut-aways.

I got a glimpse of my 'big daddy' gecko today - he's now about 30cm long, and one of his youngsters was with him. These beauties are just about unphotographable (hence my lousy avatar!)

This is one to watch, mega Leave constituency, Cons Lab and Reform percentages petty well exactly the same. (You can't see the Reform spot on the graph because it's covered by the Cons one!) From the FT site.

Who's going to be first up with a #VotingDog photo? You know your pooch wants you to! 🐕

Tragic bit of vox pop from Radio 4 Today programme. Chap in Scotland said he'd probably vote Reform because he'd "seen more adverts and that for Reform than for the others". I fear Bluesky isn't the best venue for comprehending the reach of Farage's campaign.

Do they play extra time now?

Gawd, this Diana film (on Channel 4) is terminally dire. They've put it on for folk (like me) who have no interest in Footie or bloody Glastonbury. How I miss 'The Week in Westminster'.

Sad news, my brother's cat finally went to meet her maker today at 19 years old. Her greatest claim to fame was to have appeared 11 times on Google 'Street View' - we swear that she recognised the camera car, crossed the road or ran at great speed, to get in frame 3 or 4 times at each opportunity.

Message: if you know anybody who can't be arsed to vote Labour (because of 'the polls'). Please persuade them! Ask them to imagine a winning margin of one single vote, and how they'd feel if they hadn't bothered.
Avatar
Surprisingly sane and unshouty BBC Radio 4 'Any Questions'. Wes Streeting quite sensible on (rented) housing difficulties, David Davis trying to persuade us that Brexit has benefited the country economically, (?!) Sarah Olney not bad at all, and the SNP chap being SNP.
Avatar
The cat truly ate my homework tonight. I'd spent quite a bit of time artfully shifting a tone curve to make a photo of an ancient piece of newsprint legible, then crafting the printer settings (unsaved) and I was proud of the result. Bastard chewed it up.

Oh FFS. The media have us all pearl clutching over some trivial punts, and a weirdo crapping in Sunak's lake. And we're sucking it up. Reform deserve to clear the board if this is an acceptable level of political discourse.
Avatar
I'm having trouble with the footie. Most often I support a team which plays in blue, so I am needing to be careful not to cheer on Slovenia tonight!

Are they really so cloth-eared that they've missed the fact that it's been absolutely fucking miserable for most people for years under the Tories?

I'm slightly amazed that my postal ballot papers have arrived here in sunny Italy today. Compliments to the Council for getting them out so quickly. (I'm not trusting the 'no stamp required' note on the return envelope though.)

The final MP for Richmond was Rishi Sunak, a Prime Minister and Conservative leader. Yeah! And now for the bad news Further to the completion of the 2023 Periodic Review of Westminster constituencies, the seat was abolished. Bugger.

This 'failed' trial of those unconventional people who had a baby which died is really quite important. Not for the salacious aspects. The etiolation of the trial process was a perfectly tragic illustration of how 'things no longer work'.Might get back to court in 2026 ...

Nice to see Mbappé (probably the currently most famous French footballer) coming out against the RN in the French elections. I'm always surprised (and delighted) that so many people who make their living kicking a ball are often quite deep thinkers on political matters.
Avatar
Thinking about 'archaic language'. Yesterday the Tories talked about a 'blank cheque' and somebody enquired how many people remembered cheques! Today I used 'a cigarette paper between them' to illustrate policies which were pretty nigh indistinguishable - I wonder how many understood that!

Has there been any recent polling of how farmers might vote in the GE in Britain? They're well pissed of with the tories, but probably even more so with Reform, so are they all going to vote Lib Dem?
